Saiyuki - Requiem ( Japanese 劇場版 幻想 魔 伝 最 遊記 Requiem, Gekijōban Gensōmaden Saiyūki: Requiem ) is an anime film by Hayato Date from 2001, which is based on the manga Saiyuki . The work can be assigned to the genres of action , fantasy and adventure .

A group of four, consisting of the priest Genjo Sanzo, the young monkey god Son Goku, the magician Cho Hakkai and the Han'yō Sha Gojo, travel west to save the world from the awakening of a demon prince. In doing so, they encounter various difficulties until they finally rescue a beautiful girl, Horan, from the clutches of evil, whom she invites to an estate as thanks. But strange things soon happened there and illusion and deception would see distrust among friends.
But finally they find out that the magically gifted landlord has lost his senses and is now luring them into a trap. He also took a liking to Cho. Now the four team up again to free themselves from the property.
Production and publication
The film was produced in 2001 by Studio Pierrot based on a script and directed by Hayato Date . The character design is by Yuji Moriyama and the artistic director was Yuji Ikeda. The music was composed by Motoi Sakuraba and Tightrope by Tetsu 69 was used as the closing song . The anime was released on August 18, 2001 in Japanese cinemas.
The film has been translated into English , French , Spanish and Italian , among others . A German version was published by Anime-Virtual .

In 2002 the film was followed by the original video animation Gensōmaden Saiyuki: Kibō no zaika , which includes one episode. She continues the plot of the film.
