history

The place name Salaš was mentioned for the first time in 1736. The naming depends on its geographical location.

A newly restored Serbian Orthodox Trinity Church, which was built in 1899, is located near the town center .

The former municipality of Salaš was one of the largest in Serbia with a total of 2876 hectares. The municipality was dissolved in 1965 and the villages belonging to it: Brusnik, Velika Jasikova, Glogovica, Dubočane, Jelašnica, Klenovac, Koprivnica, Mala Jasikova, Metriš, Salaš, Tabakovac, Čokonjar in the Opština Zaječar and the villages: Popština and Saječar the Opština Negotin integrated.

In recent years, more and more people have emigrated abroad or in the major cities of Serbia, such as Belgrade or Novi Sad , because of the high unemployment .

A few kilometers east of Salaš is an artificial lake called Sovinac , which was created in the 1980s. There are swimming and camping facilities at the Motel “Sovinac”, as well as a sports field and a restaurant.
