course
The Salangselva flows through the two municipalities of Bardu and Salangen . It arises on the eastern shore of Lake Isvatnet (North Sami : Jiekŋajávri ), near the border with Sweden , at an altitude of about 800 moh. The river initially runs under the name Stordalselva (North Sami: Stuoravákkejohka ) to the east, before flowing further to the north, where it joins the Budalselva near the hamlet of Bonås. From this point on, the water is called Salangselva and subsequently crosses the Salangsdalen valley . There runs parallel to the European route 6 (E6).
The river finally flows further west and for a certain time forms the border between Bardu and Salangen. In this section of the river is the approximately 15 meter high Kistefossen waterfall. In Salangen, the Salangselva finally crosses the lakes Øvervatnet and Nervatnet before flowing into the Salangen fjord at Sjøvegan .
Fish stocks
Numerous fish live in the Salangselva, including arctic char . There are also fish ladders built in.
