Salmo Peristericus is a species from the family of salmon fish (salmonids), which is endemic in the area of Prespa in the border region of Macedonia , Albania and Greece found.

features

Salmo peristericus reaches a body length of up to 35 centimeters, with 72-75% of the standard length in front of the anal fin . The height of the body is 19–23% of the standard length. The gill cover and the upper third of the flanks have small black spots. Eye-shaped red spots are found all over the flanks. The gill trap has 16 to 18 thorns.

Way of life

The species colonizes running waters in the vicinity of the lake. It is believed that it derives from a population originally colonizing the lake that migrated to the tributaries to spawn . The spawning season is in November.

threat

Salmo Peristericus is in the red list of endangered species classified as severely endangered ( Endangered ) out. The main threat is the loss of habitat.
