Salmon Site

Salmon Site (also Tatum Salt Dome ) is an approximately 6 km 2 region in Lamar County, Mississippi . It is the only nuclear test area in the eastern United States . As part of the Vela Uniform project , there were two underground detonations, namely Salmon on October 22, 1964 and Sterling on December 3, 1966.

In October 2006, the area was transferred to the US Department of Energy's Office of Legacy Management . Since December 15, 2010, the US state Mississippi is responsible again.
