The Operation Nougat was a series of 45 US nuclear weapons testing , the 1961 and 1962 on the site Nevada Test in Nevada was conducted. Only the Gnome test took place in Carlsbad , New Mexico . It was the first series of nuclear weapons tests conducted by the US after the USSR terminated the 1959 nuclear test moratorium and the first series to consist of underground tests only. In terms of content, the tests were largely similar to those of the Hardtack II series.
