The Operation Grenadier was a series of 17 US nuclear weapons testing , the 1984 and 1985 on the site Nevada Test in Nevada was conducted. All tests were done underground.

The Tierra experiment was used to test the newly developed B83 hydrogen bomb .

The Cottage experiment was part of the development of an X-ray laser as part of the Strategic Defense Initiative . This laser was supposed to be powered by a nuclear explosion. Development was later discontinued.

Controlled radioactive material was released during the Misty Rain experiment . The main purpose of the experiment was to test the effects of the radiation on parts of the MK21 re-entry vehicle and satellites . For this purpose, they were placed in a vacuum chamber about 300 meters from the detonation site. The chamber was protected against the force of the explosion by pressure gates and should simulate conditions like in space.
