Salomon van Ruysdael
Salomon van Ruysdael (* around 1600 in Naarden or Haarlem ; buried November 3, 1670 in Haarlem) was a Dutch painter . He was the uncle of the Dutch landscape and marine painter Jacob van Ruisdael .
Ruysdael became a member of the Haarlem painters' guild in 1623 and board member in 1648. Presumably he was trained by Esaias van de Velde , under whose influence he painted ice landscapes in his youth. Later, following Jan van Goyen, he painted Dutch flat and bank landscapes, river and canal views. Between 1659 and 1662 he also created some still lifes . At first, his coloristic treatment was a bit woolly, especially in the leaves of the trees, but it soon developed into full clarity, warmth and luminosity, only to lapse into a heavy, brownish tone at last.
Salomon van Ruysdael was the brother of Isaak van Ruisdael , the father of Jacob Salomonszoon van Ruysdael and the uncle of Jacob Izaaksoon van Ruisdael , all of whom were active as painters.
