Salvatore Asta

Salvatore Asta (born January 17, 1915 in Alcamo , Trapani Province , Italy ; † December 30, 2004 ) was a Roman Catholic Archbishop and Vatican diplomat .

Life

Salvatore Asta received on 25 July 1938, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On October 13, 1962, Pope John XXIII appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Aureliopolis in Lydia and ordered him to apostolic delegate in Indochina . The Cardinal Secretary of State Amleto Giovanni Cardinal Cicognani donated him episcopal ordination on November 25th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the secretary for extraordinary tasks of the church, Curia Archbishop Antonio Samorè , and the archbishop of Huế , Pierre Martin Ngô Đình Thục .

On March 23, 1964, Salvatore Asta became Apostolic Internuncio in Iran . Asta became Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Iran on March 25, 1966 . Pope Paul VI appointed him on June 7, 1969 as Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Turkey . Salvatore Asta became Apostolic Nuncio in Portugal on July 21, 1984 . Asta resigned from this position in July 1989.

Salvatore Asta attended the third and fourth sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
