Salvatore Gambino (born November 27, 1983 in Hagen ) is a German football player of Italian descent.

Career

His career began at VfB Westhofen in Schwerte . Gambino played for Borussia Dortmund from 1996 . It was used first with the C-Juniors, later with the B-Juniors, with the A-Juniors and the amateur team of Borussia Dortmund. At the DaimlerChrysler Junior Cup 2002, Gambino was voted the best player of the tournament. With various youth teams from Borussia Dortmund he was German champion. After he played 20 Bundesliga games in the 2003/04 season and scored a brace on his second outing against Bayer Leverkusen, he only made ten appearances in the 2004/05 season due to frequent injuries . At Borussia Dortmund he was used as a winger who, as a technically skilled player, also liked to dribble. For the 2006/07 season he moved to 1. FC Köln . He had also received an offer from 1. FSV Mainz 05 .

After two years in Cologne and promotion to the Bundesliga with 1. FC Cologne, he moved to TuS Koblenz . In the pre-season, however, Gambino injured and only returned to the squad at the end of the season. In June 2009 his contract in Koblenz was terminated . In October 2009 he completed a trial training at the Norwegian first division club Kongsvinger IL , but was not signed.

Family ties led him to Italy. On December 29, 2010 Gambino signed a contract in the Italian fourth division, the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione , with the promoted Trapani Calcio . At the end of the season, the club finished second and qualified for the play-off games. There they defeated FC Neapolis Mugnano in the semifinals and AS Avellino 1912 in the final . Therefore, Gambino rose with the club in the third division, the Lega Pro Prima Divisione . In the 2011/12 season he played 32 games and scored nine goals. As a promoted team, the club had long been the leader of the table and at the end of the season had to admit defeat by Spezia Calcio , but qualified again for the play-off games. There the club failed in the final at the SS Virtus Lanciano .

In the summer of 2012, Gambino moved to Serie B relegated AS Gubbio 1910 . After a month he dissolved his contract and moved back to Trapani Calcio at the end of August 2012.

In October 2015 he signed a contract with the league club Westfalia Rhynern . Gambino works parallel to soccer (player and assistant coach) in the Oberliga Westfalen as a clerk in a Werler car dealership.
