The Salzburg Association was founded in 1911 by the descendants of the Salzburg exiles in East Prussia .

history

The great plague had devastated the area around Gumbinnen , today Gussew. In 1732, Friedrich Wilhelm I brought religious refugees from Salzburg to this easternmost part of the Kingdom of Prussia . They were of great importance for the economic development and further development of the country. So descendants founded the Salzburg Association on February 22, 1911 in the Salzburg Church in Gumbinnen.

The association existed until the end of the Second World War and was re-established on May 16, 1954 by Horst-Günter Benkmann in Bielefeld . The Salzburg state government took over the sponsorship.

The association wants to maintain and expand the connection to Gussew and promote the genealogy of the descendants of Salzburg emigrants .
