Life

He graduated from the Arts Faculty of the University of Hong Kong and the University of St. Francis Xaviers in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Together with his older brothers Michael Hui (born September 3, 1942) and Ricky Hui (1946-2011) he played in popular comedies in the 1970s. His siblings Judy and Stanley don't work with him and his brothers in showbiz.

He started his career as the host of a young TV show on the Hong Kong broadcaster TVB. At that time he was singing as the front man with the band The Lotus . Sam sang many songs with Hong Kong celebrities, including Leslie Cheung . In the early 80s he played with Karl Maka in the "Aces Go Places action comedy series", better known in Germany as Mad Mission .

In 1993 he gave a farewell concert and stated that he did not want to make films or music because he almost died while filming. However, Sam came back. He starred alongside Nicholas Tse in Winner Takes All . Life as a “pensioner” bored him and so he came back in 2004. The whole concerts were sold out. At his first concerts he often remembered Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui who died in 2003.

He gave a concert in Kuala Lumpur with his sons and brother Ricky on February 19-20, 2005, but has no further concerts planned.

He is married to Rebecca "Rebu" (née Flemming). Together they have two sons: Ryan and Scott.
