Local gangsters and members of an Italian-American mafia syndicate meet in a Hong Kong skyscraper , and diamonds are to be exchanged for large sums of money. However, the transaction is interrupted by Sam , a tech-obsessed soldier of fortune, who steals the gems himself and then uses his equipment, a motor kite and his partner Charlie to break away . During the escape, however, Sam accidentally left one of his white gloves behind. Unfortunately, this is exactly the trademark of a notorious jewel thief of the same name, whom the mafia put under pressure a short time later. The glove therefore goes to Hong Kong to retrieve the diamonds.

The local authorities are also aware of the arrival of the white glove and order its police opponent to support it: the New York investigator Albert Au , known as " Kodijack ". He is supposed to work with Ha-Tung , a committed but somewhat boyish young policewoman. However, the two clash shortly after Kodijack's arrival when he suddenly gets caught up in a bank robbery and is mistaken for one of the accomplices. The resulting antipathy between him and Tung extends over long stretches of the film.

Meanwhile, Sam and Charlie discuss the coup, but are surprised by gangsters who take Charlie prisoner. Shortly before he falls to his death and Sam is caught by the police, Charlie can tell him that he had the location of the diamond hiding place tattooed on two women. Kodijack, who turns out to be extremely clumsy, and Ha-Tung now try to get the gems through Sam and can finally persuade him to work together. However, Tung's sister Marge also played a part in this, with whom Sam immediately fell in love. And Ha-Tung and Kodijack are gradually getting closer to each other.

Kodijack and Sam continue investigating and discover that the hiding tattoos are on the bum of two of Charlie's ex-girlfriends. One of them is the employee of the taxi control center Sally , who finally persuades her to have herself photographed at the relevant location. But when both finally get the delicate photos, they run into Sally's brother, a local criminal, who tortures both of them and then tries to kill them. However, Kodijack and Sam are freed from their predicament by the white glove, which also kills the gangsters. Because the jewel thief noticed that only Kodijack and Sam know about the hiding place and can lead him there, which is why he will protect them from now on.

After the duo were able to break into a theater with the help of Ha-Tung and photograph the tattoo of the second lady - the ballet dancer Nancy - they finally found the diamond hiding place: on a buoy in the harbor basin. When they start diving afterwards, the white glove is also there to catch both of them and steal the diamonds. However, Sam can trick him and escape with Kodijack and the gems. This is followed by a car chase in which both seem to be inferior to the handlers of the glove with their convertible. But Sam plays his last trump card: several hidden and booby-trapped model cars with which he kills the attackers' cars.

However, the white glove escapes after he has shot Kodijack down. But Sam pursues him and makes sure that he crashes into the sea with his sports car and is arrested. A little later it also turns out that Kodijack's wound was not fatal and that he survived. He and Sam become friends and intend to continue working together in the future.

Others

  • Mad Mission was a huge hit in both Asian and international cinemas. Therefore, four more parts were shot in the following years:
  • The film also thrives on numerous allusions to other popular cinema and series productions, for example King Kong or Mad Max . "Kodijack" is a corruption of Kojak , as Karl Maka at least resembles the hairstyle of the police officer embodied by Telly Savalas .
  • Sam Hui, who plays Sam (King Kong), also composed the music.
  • The well-known director and producer Tsui Hark can be seen as a theater director in a supporting role.
  • The film mentions that the white glove had a second police opponent in addition to Kodijack: the pink panther . In addition, a photo of Peter Sellers is shown in his star role as Inspector Jacques Clouseau . Furthermore, it is pointed out in the film that this is not available because he recently passed away. At the time of shooting, this also applied to the seller, who had been different two years earlier.
  • Similar to the Jackie Chan films, Mad Mission was also trimmed for action for the international film version and cut a few plot scenes. In this case, a total of about ten minutes are missing, mainly due to comedy segments. Among other things, the meeting of Sam and Charlie in the restaurant and the incidents in the theater are a little longer; Furthermore, recordings with further investigations in the tattoo studio and a date between Sam and Marge are missing.
