The Sam Ratulangi PB 1600 was an Indonesian container ship . The ship, named after the Indonesian politician Sam Ratulangi , became known as the ghost ship in 2018 .
history
The ship was built under hull number 156 at the shipyard Pal Indonesia Perwakilan Yard in Surabaja , Indonesia . The keel was laid on June 30, 1998, the floating in the building dock on August 16, 2000. The ship was delivered on January 5, 2001.
In 2018 the ship was sold for scrapping in Chittagong and towed to the scrapping yard in August. On August 13th, the towline broke in rough seas. Since no new towing connection could be established due to the swell, the ship was abandoned.
At the end of August 2018, the ship was discovered on a sandbank in the mouth of the Sittaung River near Thongwa in the Gulf of Martaban . Attempts to make the ship buoyant again failed. At the beginning of October 2018, the ship finally sank partially.
Technical specifications
The ship was on a seven-cylinder - Diesel engine type MAN B & W 7L60MC with 13,440 kW driven performance, a propeller worked. The ship reached a speed of 19 knots .
The deckhouse was far aft. In front of the deckhouse, 20 20-foot containers or 10 40-foot containers could be loaded one behind the other and up to eleven containers next to each other in ten container bays on deck . Directly in front of the deckhouse was a container bay in which containers could only be loaded on deck. The engine room was below deck here . In all other container bays, containers could be loaded both on deck and in the holds . The holds were closed with pontoon hatch covers. The container capacity of the ship was 1,644 TEU . The ship was prepared to be equipped with on- board cranes .
