Philippi Collection

The Philippi Collection is a private collection compiled by the entrepreneur Dieter Philippi , which mainly consists of headgear worn by clergymen or believers of different religions.
Conception
The collection includes a small selection of the clergy's headgear. Worn by the respective dignitaries, they reveal affiliation and rank. Some of the headgear also have a decorative function in that they are made from expensive, rare and high-quality materials or noble metals and gemstones have been used. The protective function is now rather subordinate.
Duration
The collection includes over five hundred headgear from Christianity , Islam , Judaism , Caodaism , Shintoism , Buddhism , Sikhism and other religions. In addition, there are over a hundred pieces of equipment from the clergy of the Roman Catholic Church , the Coptic Church and the Orthodox Churches , such as the Pope's shoes , pontifical gloves , pallia , pectoral crosses , bishop's rings , zingulae . The collection also includes 52 pectoral cords, some of which are elaborately handcrafted . The Pope and the other bishops of the Roman Catholic Church wear their pectorals on these different colored cords .
The Philippi Collection in Kirkel in Saarland is not on public display, but is open to visitors after prior telephone appointment.
