The Samos fire herb ( Phlomis Samia ) is a plant of the genus phlomis ( Phlomis ) in the family of Labiatae (Lamiaceae).

features

The Samos fire herb is a perennial herbaceous plant that forms a rhizome and reaches heights of 50 to 150 centimeters. Stems and bracts have glandular hairs and are sticky. The blade of the lower leaves is lanceolate-ovate to broadly ovate, at the base it is heart-shaped or arrow-shaped and measures 8 to 27 × 5 to 15 centimeters. There are 3 to 7 dummy whorls available. The crown is (rarely from 2.6) 3.0 to 3.5 centimeters long. The upper lip of the crown is green to purple. The middle lobes of the lower lip are mostly purple.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

Occurrence

The species occurs from the Balkan Peninsula to southwest and southern Turkey in pine, fir and cedar forests at altitudes of 400 to 1750 meters.

The Samos fire herb is rarely used as an ornamental plant for perennial beds and borders. The species has been in culture since 1714 at the latest.
