San Agustín Sur is a town in the Tarija Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
San Agustín Sur is the central place of the canton of San Agustín in the municipality of Tarija in the province of Cercado . The village is located on the left, eastern bank of the Río San Agustín, which flows downstream into the Río Santa Ana, a tributary of the Río Nuevo Guadalquivir .
geography
San Agustín Sur is conveniently located between the different climatic zones of the country on the edge of the Andes , so that the region usually has mild and pleasant weather (see Tarija climate diagram). In the rainy season between December and February (summer months) there are frequent torrential thunderstorms. The rest of the year is extremely low in precipitation.
The landscape has been eroded by the centuries of clearing and the region around Tarija is framed by bare mountain ranges. The area around Tarija used to be Bolivia's grain chamber. Today, in addition to agriculture, the region is rich in natural gas .

Transport network
San Agustín Sur is located thirty-one kilometers by road southeast of Tarija , the capital of the department.
The highway Ruta 1 runs through Tarija in a north-south direction, which leads from Lake Titicaca on the border with Peru via El Alto , Oruro and Potosí to Tarija, and from there on to Bermejo on the border with Argentina .
Eight kilometers southeast of the city center of Tarija, the highway Ruta 11 branches off in an easterly direction from Ruta 1, and after thirteen kilometers a secondary road branches off in a northerly direction to Yesera Norte , just before crossing the Río Santa Ana. After a further four kilometers on Ruta 11 in an easterly direction, a dirt road branches off to the south, which reaches San Agustín Sur after six kilometers .
