San Jose is a Philippine municipality in the province of Northern Samar on the island of Samar . It has 17,561 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 16 barangays . The community is described as partially urban and belongs to the fifth income bracket of the communities in the Philippines. Their neighboring parishes are Bobon in the east, Victoria in the south and Rosario in the west. San Jose is about 20 km west of the provincial capital Catarman on the coast of the Philippine Sea . The smaller islands of Cabaungon Grande, Cabaungon Pequiño, Tandang, Pangilala, Puropangdan, Matungko and Maghungaw lie in front of the coastal section of the municipality. These are located in the Biri Larosa Protected Landscape / Seascape nature and marine reserve .
