San Saba is the district capital and the county seat of the San Saba County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located near the geographic center of Texas and on US Highway 190 , 140 km northwest of Austin , and has a total area of 4.7 km², with no significant water surface.

According to the 2000 census, 2,637 people in 1,008 households and 680 families lived here. The population density was 565.6 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 78.54% White, 0.64% African American, 1.74% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 17.33% other ethnic groups. About 1.63% were mixed race and 31.51% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,008 households, 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 52.2% of these were married couples living together. 11.8% were single mothers and 32.5% were non-families. 30.9% of all households were single households and there were people living in 18.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.12.
27.0% of the population were under 18 years old, 6.5% 18 to 24, 23.7% 25 to 44, 20.1% 45 to 64, and 22.7% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 82.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 79.2 men.
