The Sander Formation (until about 1972 Ekkehard Sander Septett ) was a band that was founded in Dresden in 1969 and existed until the 1990s.

Band history

The band was founded in 1969 by Ekkehard Sander (saxophone, flute). The band also included Wolfgang Fröhlich (drums), Udo Jakob (percussion), Volkmar Ryssel (vocals, guitar), Charly Böhme (trumpet, percussion), Thomas Reuter (electric bass), Ekkehard Berger (vocals, guitar) and Jürgen Pranger (Saxophone, organ), although the additional winds did not join the band until 1970/1971.

In the early 1970s she was known as the Ekkehard Sander Septett and was able to produce some singles for the GDR record label Amiga . The band played underground music. But she also accompanied the Swedish pop singer Marianne Kock on her GDR tours. At the end of the 1970s, the band played more dance music and mostly appeared as an accompanying band. It was able to record around 350 titles on radio in the GDR . After a reshuffle in 1986, the band consisted of Ekkehard Sander, Karl-Heinz Ringel (keyboards), Volker Richter (guitar, vocals), Bernd Fiedler (electric bass, vocals) and Ulrich Gerbeth (drums, vocals). In 1989 the singer Petra Hennig joined the band. All musicians were graduates of the "Carl Maria von Weber" University of Music in Dresden.

In the 1990s, the band accompanied numerous German and Austrian pop singers, including Andy Borg , Claudia Jung and Jonny Hill .
