history

In 1879 Christian Heinrich Sandler founded a cotton wool factory in Hof in Upper Franconia . The roots of Sandler AG lie in the production of upholstery and tailor's wadding. Old fabrics were torn into individual fibers by tearing machines. The resulting industrial cotton was used for the slowly developing upholstered furniture industry - especially in the Coburg area. In 1899, the seat was relocated to the Lamitzmühle on the outskirts of Schwarzenbach an der Saale in order to cover the increased energy requirements through the water power of the Lamitz . Later this was supplemented by a steam engine .

After the Second World War , the company began to grow continuously. Christian Heinrich Sandler , the grandson of the company's founder , who took over management of the company in 1952, laid the foundations for the development of the nonwovens factory . The first major structural change took place in 1967 when the production of voluminous nonwovens consisting of synthetic fibers began. New markets for voluminous nonwovens were systematically developed so that they were not only used in upholstered furniture, but also in leisure furniture and winter and sportswear.

With the thermal consolidation of voluminous nonwovens, the company introduced a new type of process in the 1970s that has largely established itself on the market today. The company combined the existing needle felt technology with the novel thermofusion technology. The result was nonwoven cleaning cloths that have gradually replaced the coarse yarn fabrics that were previously used.

In 1987 the company began manufacturing thermobonding nonwovens, which are used in particular in the hygiene, transportation and filtration markets . With this, Sandler opened up worldwide export opportunities. In 1993 the largest European plant for voluminous nonwovens was put into operation in Schwarzenbach.

In the following years, Sandler continued to expand the Schwarzenbach location. In 1999 the meltblown technology was introduced, in which fine fiber fleeces are produced from plastic granulates using special spinnerets, which are used for technical applications such as filtration. Since 2003, Sandler has also been producing hydroentangled nonwovens - so-called spunlace nonwovens - which are mainly used for cleaning and cosmetic wipes. In 2005 the range was expanded to include needled nonwovens that are manufactured using the needle punching process and used, for example, as absorbers in automobiles.

In 2016, Sandler Nonwoven Corporation became the company's first foreign location in Perry , Georgia , USA, to start producing nonwovens.
