Sandy Good (1969)

Sandra "Sandy" Collins Good (born February 20, 1944 in San Diego , California ) is an American environmental activist and was a long-time member of the Manson Family . Because of her striking blue eye color, she was nicknamed "Blue" there.

Early life

Sandy Good comes from a middle-class background. Her father was a wealthy stockbroker. The couple had three daughters, of whom Sandy was the youngest. Her parents divorced in 1948. She attended Point Loma High School and was a member of the Student Opinion Club there , along with the future actress Margaret Avery . Good studied at California State Universities at Sacramento , University of Oregon at Eugene, and San Francisco State College for seven years without graduation. During this time she was also active in the civil rights movement.

Sandy Good in the Manson Family

In April 1968 she traveled purposefully by private plane from San Francisco to Tapango , where she wanted to meet members of the Manson Family whose practices (free love, drugs) she had heard of. After she was greeted very lovingly by some members of the commune , she immediately joined the community around Charles Manson and subsequently became Manson's most fanatical supporter.

She was arrested for the first time for possession of marijuana in May 1968, but was released two days later.

On August 8, 1969, she was arrested again after being caught fraudulent with credit card with Mary Brunner . The detention prevented believed to be involved in the Tate - LaBianca participated -Morden some other members of the Manson Family.

On September 16, 1969, Good gave birth to their son Ivan. Because of her polygamous sex life, she could not be sure who the father of her child had been. She chose the zoologist Joel Pugh, whom she knew from her student days and whom she had introduced into the Manson Family. On December 1, 1969, Pugh's body was found in a London hotel. Although his throat was cut twice, the police officer in charge found the cause of death to be suicide .

During the Tate La Bianca trial, Sandy Good and other Manson supporters regularly protested outside the courthouse. When Charles Manson cut his hair in protest and burned an "X" on his forehead, Good and other followers followed suit.

Life without Manson

After the death sentences of Manson, Atkins , Watson , Krenwinkel and Van Houten , which were commuted to life sentences in 1972 , Good gave several interviews. In it, she showed understanding of the murders and stated that the Manson Family was at a war against society and that there are no wars without cruelty . She also described the detainees as "good soldiers".

After Manson and many of the group's leaders were sentenced to long or life imprisonment for murder and other crimes, Sandy Good remained a staunch supporter of Manson. Deprived of its executives, things grew quiet around the group after the convictions, especially because the press interest slackened after the verdicts were announced . Within a year, the family shrank to a handful of active members, including Sandy Good.

It was not until the summer of 1974 that the public became aware of the notorious family again : Charles Manson instructed his remaining loyal followers from prison about cash receipts for the “Ökokill” campaign. The main activists, Sandy Good and Lynette Fromme , lived together in Sacramento at the time and soon began walking through the streets of the city in long, red hooded robes, predicting the “eco-kill”. They visited various industrial plants and threatened to use force if the companies did not stop their pollution immediately. They also sent numerous threatening letters to a number of industrialists and companies as part of the campaign.

The then US government also received a threatening letter: “Should the Nixon government, which leads this country against the law, find a continuation with a new face, then it will be bloodier at home than in the Tate LaBianca houses and My Lai together! The realization of ignorance of your fear and carelessness towards your children will sweep your bedrooms with cleaver! "

The media hardly reported about the actions of the two family members. Experts suspect that the restrained media coverage prompted Fromme to carry out the media attack on President Ford . After the unsuccessful assassination attempt on September 5, 1975, Good gave an interview on CBC radio. In it she announced that she would send a wave of murderers to kill those responsible for the forest death .

A list of 70 death row inmates from politics and business followed on September 11th . Good gave the list to a friend along with threatening letters. However, he did not take the letters to the post office, but forwarded them to the FBI .

On December 22, 1975, Good and newly-found Manson supporter Susan Murphy were indicted by the Federal Grand Jury in Sacramento for "conspiring and sending threatening letters by mail in unity with death threats against 170 executives." Sandra Good was found guilty on all charges on March 16, 1976 and received a 15-year prison sentence on April 13 .

probation

In December 1985 Sandy Goods sentence was after almost ten years in prison for parole suspended. At the probation hearing, she expressed her loyalty to Charles Manson, who was still in prison. One of the probation requirements was that she would not be allowed to enter the state of California for five years . She stuck to that. Immediately after the deadline she moved to the Corcoran State Prison area to be close to the Manson imprisoned there. However, she was refused to visit him in prison.

On January 26, 1996, she opened a Manson website. She also supported Manson's environmental movement, Air Trees Water Animals (ATWA).
