Sandro Schärer

Sandro Schärer (born June 6, 1988 in Buttikon SZ ) is a Swiss football referee . He has been on the FIFA list since 2015 .

Education and life

After passing the Matura examination, Schärer studied sport and geography in Basel and initially worked as a substitute teacher at various grammar schools and as a ski instructor.

In addition to his referee activities, he has been head of the Referee Academy, the SFV's talent development program for referees, since 2016 .

Career as a referee

After completing his training as a referee in 2005, Schärer rose quickly and in 2011, at the age of 24, was already in charge of games in the Challenge League , the second highest Swiss division. In 2013 he made his Super League debut at the game between FC Lausanne-Sport and FC Thun .

Schärer has been a FIFA referee since 2015 . He made his international debut in a qualifying tournament for the U-17 European Football Championship in 2015 . In the same year he was able to record his first international appearance in the men's area when he was entrusted with the game management between IF Elfsborg and FC Lahti in the first qualifying round of the Europa League . He led his first international match in May 2017 in the friendly between Italy and San Marino . Since then he has been regularly entrusted with directing games in the group stage of the Europa League and the qualifying rounds of the Champions League .

As part of the SFV's exchange program with the associations in Austria and France, he was also used in the Austrian Bundesliga and French Ligue 1 .
