Sanni Maaria Leinonen (born November 8, 1989 in Siilinjärvi ) is a former Finnish ski racer . She specialized in the disciplines of slalom and giant slalom . Her twin brother Kalle Leinonen was successful as a freestyle skier .
biography
In November 2004 Leinonen took part in FIS races for the first time, appearances in the European Cup followed from January 2006. On February 3, 2006, she contested her first World Cup race, the giant slalom in Ofterschwang . She won World Cup points for the first time on November 11, 2006 with 21st place in the Levi slalom . Just six weeks later, she finished tenth in the Semmering slalom for the first time in the top 10. In the next few years she was able to place in the top 20 several times before she achieved her second top 10 result and best World Cup result on January 17, 2010 with seventh place in the Maribor slalom .
Leinonen took part in the 2007 World Cup in Åre . There she reached fourth place in the team competition with the Finnish team . At the 2009 World Championships in Val-d'Isère , her best result was eleventh place in the slalom. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , she was eliminated in slalom and only achieved 30th place in giant slalom. At the 2011 World Championships Leinonen was unable to attend. On January 17th of that year she suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in the European Cup slalom in Tarvisio , which meant the premature end of the season. After remaining without World Cup points in the following season 2011/2012, she announced her retirement from ski racing in August 2012.
