Sansevieria braunii is a species of plant in the genus Sansevieria in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). The specific epithet honors the German pharmacist and botanist Carl Philipp Johann Georg Braun (1870–1935), who spent many years in Tanzania.

description

Sansevieria braunii grows stemless as a perennial , succulent plant with 3 centimeters thick brownish-orange rhizomes . The usually two leaves are lanceolate-oblong. The simple leaf blade is 50 to 70 inches long and 7 to 11 inches wide. They are slightly narrowed at the base, green with a few white bands or spots and taper off into a spider tip. The edge of the spread is hardened and red-brown.

The single- eared inflorescences with a cylindrical, reddish stalk are up to 45 centimeters high. The panicles, which are 15 centimeters in diameter, are densely covered with flowers. The bract is lanceolate, about 20 millimeters long and up to 6 millimeters wide. The flower stalk is up to an inch long. The bracts are white. The flower tube is about 8.2 inches long. The tips are more or less 2.5 to 3 inches long.

distribution

Sansevieria braunii is widespread in Tanzania in the woodlands in the deep shade from 500 to 1160 meters above sea level.

Taxonomy

The first description of Sansevieria braunii was in 1911 by Heinrich Gustav Adolf Engler and Kurt Krause (1883–1963).
