Sansevieria liberica is a species of plant in the genus Sansevieria in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). The specific epithet liberica indicates the place where it was found in Liberia .

description

Sansevieria liberica grows without a trunk as a perennial , succulent plant with 1.9 centimeters thick, pale grayish creeping rhizomes . The one to six leaves stand upright or almost upright on a shoot, also spread out when old and are stiffly leathery or belt-shaped to lanceolate in shape. The simple leaf blade is 46 to 106 inches long and 5 to 12.5 inches wide. It narrows from below the middle to the bottom in a hollow stalk and is dark green, usually provided with clearly pale green transverse bands. Above the middle upwards it narrows into a 2 to 12 millimeter long, green, elastic spade tip, which is quite pointed and becomes whitish with age. The spreading edge is cartilaginous, pale reddish brown. The leaf surface is smooth.

The single- eared inflorescences are 60 to 80 centimeters high. The panicles are loosely covered with flowers. The bract is pointed lanceolate. The bracts are white and about 5 centimeters tall.

Sansevieria liberica is common in the Central African Republic , Ivory Coast , Burkina Faso , Ghana , Liberia , Nigeria , Sierra Leone and Togo in dry, shady areas along rivers and on termite mounds and rocks.

Taxonomy

The first description of Sansevieria liberica was in 1903 by Joseph Gérôme and Oscar Labroy (1876-1953). Synonyms for Sansevieria liberica Gérôme & Labroy are: Sansevieria chinensis Gentil ex NEBr. (1915) and Sansevieria gentilis Mattei (1918).
