history

Today's church, consecrated to the Apostle Peter , was built in the first half of the 11th century on the site of a small Carolingian predecessor building mentioned in a document in 899 , which was dedicated to St. Peter and John the Baptist was consecrated. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the portal was renewed in the Baroque style and side chapels were added.

architecture

Stone material

The stones used in construction are z. Partly halfway exactly ( apse ) or only partially hewn ( nave and facade), so that a comparatively regular masonry bond was only possible in the area of the apse . It can be assumed that parts of the church were (later) plastered.

Exterior construction

The three apses of the church are divided by pilaster strips with rounded arched friezes in Lombard style . The three windows of the central apse are significantly larger than the loopholes-like window openings in the two side apses - however, there are no set columns , which indicates an early period of origin. The tower ( comunidor ) above the yoke in front of the central apse shows precisely hewn corner stones , which suggest a subsequent addition. The originally rather unadorned facade has a round window and closes with a four-arched bell gable ( espadanya ), which should probably be extended on the south side.

Interior of the church

inner space

The slightly trapezoidal interior of the church has three aisles and is covered by plastered barrel vaults, which in turn are subject to belt arches ; the three apses show the usual domes . The wide-span arches between the central nave and side aisles, which are due to the renovation work of the 17th / 18th centuries, are striking. Century. The north aisle is one step higher than the rest of the church.
