Santa Claus is a city in Spencer County . It is located in the southwest of the state of Indiana in the United States . Santa Claus was founded in 1854.
history
When it was founded in 1854, the settlement was initially called Santa Fe . When an attempt was made to establish an office for the United States Postal Service , the residents were informed that a town called Santa Fe already existed in Indina. As a result, the residents changed the name to Santa Claus in 1856.
Because of the city's name, Santa Claus has been receiving letters from children at Christmas for over a hundred years, which volunteers answer. The city has built various attractions around the theme of Santa Claus , such as a Santa Claus Museum and Santa's Candy Castle , and hosts various festivals during the Advent season.

At the time of the 2010 census ( US Census 2010 ) Santa Claus had 2,481 inhabitants on a land area of 17.8 km². The mean age was 41.4 years. The median household income was $ 16,163. 4.8% of the population had their income below the poverty line .
