Santa Gertrudis is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Santa Gertrudis is the second largest town in the Milluhuaya canton in the municipality of Coripata in the Nor Yungas province . The village is located at an altitude of 1854  m on a plateau 650 m above the Río Boopi , which flows north and flows into the Río Beni . West of Santa Gertrudis a ridge rises up to a height of 2150 m.

Santa Gertrudis is located in the transition area between the Altiplano and the Cordillera Real in the west and the foothills of the Amazon lowlands in the east. Santa Gertrudis is located 123 kilometers by road northeast of La Paz , the capital of the department.

From La Paz, the asphalted highway Ruta 3 leads north-east for 52 kilometers to Cotapata and from there another 35 kilometers to Coroico . Here the Ruta 40 branches off to the southeast and reaches Coripata after 32 kilometers . The road to Santa Gertrudis leads west out of Coripata and reaches the center of the village after a good four kilometers.

Due to the historical population development in the Municipio Coripata, the Aymara population is predominant, 72.3 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
