Santee is a city in San Diego County in the US state of California . It has a population of around 58,000 (as of 2016) and belongs to the metropolitan area of San Diego . Via California State Route 52 , Santee has a direct multi-lane connection to Interstate 5 near the Pacific Ocean.

history

The native people of the place are the Kumeyaay Indians, who established a village on the banks of the San Diego River several thousand years ago . The present town was named after Milton Santee , the second husband of Jennie Blodgett , whose first husband was the farm pioneer George A. Cowles .

population

According to the census of January 1, 2006, the population was 54,709. By 2010 it fell slightly to 53,213 residents, who are divided into the following ethnicities : 44,083 (82.5%) white, 8699 (16.3%) Hispanics, 2044 (3.8%) Asians, 1057 (2%) African-American 409 (0.8%) Indians, 253 (0.5%) Pacific islanders, 2677 (5%) other races and 2890 (5.4%) with two or more ethnicities. The city comprised 19,306 households with 14,705 families with an average size of 3.13 people. The average age was 37.2 years.

Transportation

The California State Route 52 connects with the district Santee La Jolla in northwestern San Diego. In addition, four major thoroughfares run through the city: Mast Boulevard and Mission Gorge Road as east-west connections, and Magnolia Avenue and Cuyamaca Street as north-south connections. Furthermore, Santee is the northeastern end of the Green Line of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System , which connects the city with downtown San Diego.

Educational institutions

Santee is located in the catchment area of ​​two school districts, the Santee School District and the Grossmont Union High School District . The latter has two high schools, West Hills High School and Santana High School . There are nine primary schools in the city area, which are continued as secondary schools in the last two school years of the eight-year school education.

Recreational facilities

In the Town Center Community Park is the Sportsplex USA Santee , a 6.1 hectare sports complex. This includes three fields for softball, four baseball fields, two soccer fields, spectator stands and restaurants.
