Santiago Arzamendia Duarte (born May 5, 1998 in Wanda , Misiones , Argentina ) is a Paraguayan football player who is under contract with the first division club Cerro Porteño . The left full-back has been a Paraguayan international since March 2019 .

Santiago Arzamendia was born in Wanda , Misiones, Argentina , to Paraguayan parents and returned home with his family at the age of 13, where he joined the youth department of Club Cerro Porteño . At the club from the capital Asunción , he was appointed to the first team in the 2015 season. On September 9, 2015 (2nd matchday of Clausura) Arzamendia made his debut in the 0-1 away defeat against Deportivo Capiatá in the highest Paraguayan division . This season he only played one league game and in the following season in 2016 the left full-back only made three league appearances. He made his breakthrough in the starting line-up in the 2017 Clausura, in which he already played 12 league games and won them with the club.

On February 17, 2018 (3rd matchday of Apertura), Arzamendia scored his first league goal for the Ciclón in a 2-0 home win against Club Sol de América . In this 2018 season, he played 31 league games in which he scored four goals. In the 2019 game year, he was used in 26 league games.

National team

Santiago Arzamendia was eligible to play for both the Argentine and Paraguayan national teams , but opted for the latter in September 2018. On March 27, 2019, he made his debut in the 2-4 friendly defeat against Mexico for the senior national team of Albirroja . In the same year he took part in the Copa America in Brazil , where he was in the starting lineup in all four games of the selection.
