Santo André is a Portuguese place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Estremoz with 2376 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
On September 29, 2013, the parishes of Estremoz (Santo André) and Estremoz (Santa Maria) were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Estremoz (Santa Maria e Santo André) .
The municipal area
Santo André is a place and a former municipality and together with Santa Maria forms the urban area of Estremoz. The municipality of Santo André shows a curiosity: it is completely enclosed by the area of the much larger municipality of Santa Maria, at the same time it completely encloses the castle of Estremoz, which belongs to the municipality of Santa Maria as an exclave .

Since the local elections in Portugal in 2009, Santo André has not been ruled by one of the major parties, but by the MiETZ - Movimento independendte por Estremoz ( Portuguese for: Independent Movement for Estremoz).

A number of attractions of the city of Estremoz are located in the municipality of Santo André. These include a. Town houses and city palaces, stone fountains and stone crosses, and the stake of 1512.
A number of sacred buildings should also be mentioned, including the Convento dos Congregados, built as a Renaissance building in the 16th century and expanded into a Baroque monastery in the 17th century . The building is considered a prototype for the imposing Palácio Nacional de Mafra and today houses the city administration ( Câmara Municipal de Estremoz ), the city library ( Biblioteca Municipal ) and the Museu de Arte Sacra de Estremoz , a museum for sacred art .
Also worth seeing are historical buildings such as the Teatro Bernardim Ribeiro , built in 1916 , or the Café Águias d 'Ouro (English: Café Goldener Adler, officially Edifício no Rossio do Marquês de Pombal, n.º 27 , English: Building on the square of the Margraves of Pombal No. 27), an elaborate Art Nouveau building in the city's central square.
