Sapahaqui is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Sapahaqui is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Sapahaqui in the province of Loayza . The village of Sapahaqui is located at an altitude of 3136  m at the confluence of the Río Chacoma and the Río Sapahaqui in the northern foothills of the Serranía de Sicasica .

Sapahaqui lies between the Bolivian Altiplano in the west and the Amazon lowlands in the east. The region has a typical daytime climate in which the mean temperature differences between day and night are greater than the temperature differences between the seasons.

The average annual temperature of the region is 14 ° C and fluctuates between 11 ° C in June and 16 ° C in November (see Sapahaqui climate diagram). Annual precipitation is 550 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to August and monthly precipitation of more than 100 mm in January and February.

Transport network

Sapahaqui lies at a distance of 84 kilometers by road southeast of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz, the paved highway Ruta 1 leads south via El Alto to the south. About 50 kilometers south of El Alto, a country road branches off to the southeast in Calamarca and reaches Sapahaqui after 32 kilometers.

Due to the historical population development, the Aymara population is predominant in the region , in the municipality of Sapahaqui 96.7 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
