Sara Hendriks

Sara Hendriks (born June 28, 1846 in Renkum ; † March 25, 1925 in Naarden ) was a Dutch painter and draftsman .

Life

Sara Frederica Hendriks, born in Oosterbeek, a suburb of Arnhem , was the daughter of the landscape painter Frederik Hendrik Hendriks (1808–1865) and the Hendrica Wilhelmina de Gaai Fortman. She received painting lessons from her father and around 1870 in the Düsseldorf painting school from Karl Ferdinand Sohn , professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy .

From 1874 to 1895 she lived in Utrecht , where she was a member of the Utrecht Artists' Association ( Schilder- en teekengenootschap Kunstliefde in Utrecht ). From 1895 to 1897 she lived for a short time in The Hague and Arnhem and then moved to Amsterdam , where she married the broker Wolter Gerrit Reedeker (1855-1931) in 1899 at the age of 53. The couple lived in Amsterdam until 1911, then in Bussum and from 1913 in Naarden, where Hendriks died in 1925 at the age of 78.

Hendriks painted still lifes with flowers, fish and fruits, figurines and portraits in the style of the masters of the 17th century. In 1881 she exhibited at the Exposition générale des Beaus Arts in Brussels and participated several times in the exhibition of living masters in Amsterdam ( Tentoonstelling van Lebende Meisters ). Her work is included in the collections of the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag and the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam . She signed her works with Sara Hendriks. In the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie there is a photo of the painter Jozef Israëls from 1899, which she must have been acquainted with.
