Sarah Kirsten Tueting (born April 26, 1976 in Winnetka , Illinois ) is a former American ice hockey goalkeeper . Tueting was from 1997 to 2002 a member of the women's national ice hockey team of the United States and was with this Olympic champion at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano .
Career
After completing high school at New Trier High School in her hometown, Tueting moved to Dartmouth College for the 1994/95 school year . In addition to studying neurobiology , the goalkeeper played hockey for the university team in the ECAC . In her first year, she became the Rookie of the Year of the Ivy League appointed.
Before her fourth and final year, Tueting left college for a year and was signed by the US Ice Hockey Association USA Hockey . In previous years she had made her debut for the women's national ice hockey team of the United States at the 3 Nations Cup in 1996 and won the silver medal at the 1997 World Cup a year later . Together with the US federation, Tueting prepared specifically for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan . Together with Sara DeCosta , she then formed the US goalkeeper team at the women's ice hockey tournament, which was held for the first time as part of the 1998 Winter Games. There she crowned her career by winning the gold medal when Canada was beaten twice during the tournament. In the final, which the Americans won 3-1, Tueting was in the goal of the winning team.
The goalkeeper then returned to Dartmouth College for a year, but was also active for the United States women's national ice hockey team. So she contested the 2000 World Cup - again in a team with DeCosta - and won the silver medal. She also had the lowest number of goals conceded of all goalkeepers in the tournament. Another, third silver medal followed in the 2001 world championships . At the 2002 Winter Olympics in her home town of Salt Lake City , she completed her second Winter Games and returned home from there with a silver medal. Once again she had shared the goalkeeping post with DeCosta. Following the Olympic Games, Tueting ended her active career and subsequently worked for Medtronic .
