Scarlxrd (pronounced: Scarlord ), real name Marius Lucas-Antonio Listhrop (born June 19, 1994 in Wolverhampton ) is a British rapper, singer, lyricist and musician. He is known for his style of music, which is a mixture of metal and the hip-hop subgenre trap . The video for his song Heart Attack reached over 79 million views on YouTube.

Career

2012-2014

His career began as a web video producer on YouTube under the name Mazzi Maz with vlogs that provided insights into his life. He often had videos with other YouTube personalities like Sam Pepper and Caspar Lee.

From the end of 2013 to the middle of 2014 Listhrop was on a worldwide comedy music tour with Sam Pepper called the "WDGAF Tour" ( We don't give a Fuck Tour ).

2014-2016

In 2014 he founded the nu-metal band Myth City , whose front man he became. Listhrop described the band's genre as a mix between rap and grindcore . Myth City released their EP "Myth City" on February 28, 2015.

2016-2018

In August 2016 Listhrop published a music video for the first time under the name Scarlxrd in which he raps without a mask. By the end of 2016, he had released two more albums. Including his "self-titled" album (in Japanese characters ス カ ー 藩主) and RXSE .

Towards the end of 2016, he released two new albums. Cabin Fever and Chaxsthexry .

In April 2017 Scarlxrd released the music video for " Chain $ aw ". On May 31, 2017, the music video for " Heart Attack " came out.

On September 29th, his fifth studio album " Lxrdszn " was released. "King Scar" was also offered as a music kit in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive at the same time .

2019 – now

In early 2019 Scarlxrd announced his seventh studio album " Infinity ", which was released on March 15, 2019. He was nominated for the Kerrang! Awards in the Best British Breakthrough category. Later in 2019, his song "The Purge" was used on the HBO television series Euphoria. Scarlxrd released his second studio album in 2019 called " Immxrtalisatixn " on October 4th, 2019.

Scarlxrd's combination of trap music and heavy metal is now understood under the term "trap metal", which includes the music of many Soundcloud rappers. In a 2018 article, NME describes him as a "tortured outsider hip-hop artist." They also call him “a metal rap overlord” and his style of “screaming vocals, tight trap beats and ear-destroying, distorted guitar sounds” and refer to it as a fusion of hard metal and “nihilistic rap”. Scarlxrd listened to a lot of heavy metal and hip hop growing up. He cites artists like Missy Elliott , Nelly, and Eminem as his early influences. He founded his band Myth City, based on bands such as Linkin Park , Rage Against the Machine , Incubus and Deftones .

He is known for replacing the letter "o" with "x", which is reflected in his artist name as well as in countless songs. Japanese culture , especially anime, plays a major role in Scarlxrd's visual appearance, both in terms of clothing and for his video and cover design . His clothing style is called tech wear. His iconic mouth cover, which he wears to distance himself from his past YouTube image, is inspired by the Japanese manga Tokyo Ghoul . Scarlxrd also calls the American nu-metal band Slipknot one of his greatest inspirations for his videos.

In November 2019, thanks to various users of the Reddit website, it became known that Scarlxrd was also publishing albums under the pseudonyms SPRNKLZ and Lucas Antonio . Under the first-mentioned pseudonym he dedicates himself to the genre Cloudrap , under the second to the genre classical . It is believed that in addition to his career as Scarlxrd , the singer created other identities to experiment in genres that are not overshadowed by Scarlxrd's ego .
