The Schätzelberg Elementary School is a school in the Berlin district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg in the Mariendorf district , near the border with the Neukölln district .
history
The school opened in 1965; their school building and sports hall, sports grounds and school yard were built into an allotment garden area in the same year. In 2006/07 an additional cafeteria and after-school care center was added for the new all-day area. The entire school area covers 13,000 m².
The name of the school refers to the Schätzelberge , the largely forgotten old field name for the elevation south of the Teltow Canal between Ullsteinstrasse and Eisenacher Strasse. (The term can only be found, since 1922, in the name of the neighboring allotment garden colony Schätzelberge eV, and the Schätzelbergstrasse, so named since 1935, on the other side of Ullsteinstrasse, on which the primary school was never located.)
In the 1980s the school was closed due to declining student numbers. From then on, the building was used by the Berlin-Tempelhof music school. In 1996, external school classes from the neighboring primary schools Mascha-Kaléko-Grundschule (named after Ludwig Heck until June 7, 2018 ) and Carl-Sonnenschein-Grundschule were added.
In August 1997, the Schätzelberg Primary School was reopened at the same location as a primary school with a musical train, continuing the musical tradition of the location; a larger part of the pupils and teachers came from the neighboring Ludwig Heck primary school, which suffered from lack of space. In order to expand the emphasis on music, a collaboration with the Landesmusikakademie Berlin began in 2005 to train string teachers.
The CDU politician Jutta Kaddatz is a former director of the Schätzelberg elementary school.
type of school
The Schätzelberg Elementary School is an open all-day elementary school with an emphasis on music. Beyond the care hours of the Reliable Half-Day Elementary School (VHG) from 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., additional support and care (after-school care center) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. can be used. Lessons are based on the 40-minute model.
The school is two-class. Today around 320 students attend the school.
The school is open to children from the entire district and also to students from other districts.
Musical emphasis
Since 1997 a special musical focus has been placed in the school. This emphasis on music includes, in addition to class music lessons, additional school lessons in which instrumental lessons are given in small groups and the children play ensemble. If required, the musical instruments can be lent to the students for a small fee.
This gives every child in the school the opportunity to learn a musical instrument in a class or among school friends and to make music together.
This form of additional instrumental lessons has been carried out across Berlin since 1975 at a total of 15 Berlin primary schools; The corresponding funding measure by the Berlin Senate was guaranteed on a permanent basis in 2008. The establishment of the emphasis on music is based on the knowledge that the practice of music has been shown to have a positive influence on the general development of a child: Children who are musically active train their creativity, train their concentration and generally promote their performance. In addition, making music together promotes the social climate and willingness to integrate.
The following instruments can be learned at the Schätzelberg Elementary School:
- Violin (string class)
- Viola (string class)
- Cello (string class)
- guitar
- recorder
- Flute
- Keyboard
- Percussion / drums

Early musical education begins in 1st grade (singing-playing-dancing). At the beginning of the 2nd class there is the opportunity to get to know several instruments in a "trial phase" before learning an instrument of your choice.
The Schätzelberg Primary School constantly puts on its own music performances and regularly takes part in other music events:

All of Berlin's music-oriented schools took part with around 1200 children, parents and teachers.
