Schönau ( Westallgäuerisch Schinn e , outdated Schinau ) is a village in the municipality of Grünenbach in the district of Lindau (Lake Constance) and part of the Westallgäu region .

history

Chapel of St. Martin

Schönau was first mentioned in 1250 as Schönnowe . The St. Martin chapel was built in the middle of the 17th century . The school opened in 1770. On May 4, 1778, the desertification began in Schönau, which was completed on June 21 of the same year. In 1801 the table burned down in the village . The stones from Altlaubenberg Castle will be used to rebuild today's Gasthaus Adler . On the book between Schönau and Röthenbach , the free court of the Free Farmers of the County of Eglofs met until 1805 , who lived in the Upper ( County of Rothenfels around Kempten and the Niedersonthofener See ) and lower Sturz ( Dominion Hohenegg and Dominion Staufen) in the Allgäu . The free court of the free people of Eglofs took place every year in early summer with “Free serene sky”, but when it rains in the inn in Schönau. In 1834 a fire engine was purchased for the place. The first demands to merge the community of Schönau with the community of Grünenbach came in 1836, but this idea was rejected and only taken up again in 1860.
