Schönberg is a group of farmsteads in the district of Röllshausen , a district of the Schrecksbach community in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse .
The hamlet is located on the northern slope of the Schönberg, a basalt cone rising up on the edge of the Schwalm valley . On the steep, terrace-like inclining mountain stands the Schönberg Chapel , which dates from the Middle Ages and is visible from afar . Not far to the west of the village, the federal highway 254 runs from Alsfeld to Ziegenhain .
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1030. When it was first mentioned, the place was called Sconenberg . From 1324 the place was called Schonenberg .
