Holzburg is a district of Schrecksbach in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district . Holzburg lies on the edge of the Schwalm .

history

Holzburg was mentioned for the first time in a document in 1232 under the name "Hahelsburc". At that time, Holzburg was probably a knightly residence. Other local names before the Reformation are "Halsburg" (1293), "Alsborch" (1309), "Holsburg" (1367) and "Hoilsberg" (1425).

A parish is first recorded for Holzburg in 1283, a pleban for 1285 and 1298. The lords of Liederbach have been documented as patrons from the landgrave's fief since 1382, as well as the lords of Urff since 1459 . The change to the evangelical confession took place in 1526 with the introduction of the Reformation in the Landgraviate of Hesse ; Johannes Süssmann is documented as the first Protestant pastor on site from around 1531 to 1576.

After the division of Hesse in the 16th and 17th centuries, the town came to the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt with the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 , which ceded it to the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel in 1708 .

On December 31, 1971, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the communities of Holzburg and Schrecksbach merged to form the new community of Schrecksbach.

Village museum

Holzburg village museum

The Holzburg Village Museum was set up in 1959 by the pastor Heinz Metz with many volunteers in the old parish barn from 1728. Today the museum has 10 exhibition rooms and presents the living culture of earlier generations. The costumes of men and women are also shown and explained. Between 2003 and 2007 the museum was renovated by 50 volunteers in more than 2,500 working hours. Since October 2008 it has been in the care of a newly founded association "Schwälmer Dorfmuseum Holzburg" and is operated independently.

Citizens' Initiative

A citizens' initiative in 1999 and 2000 campaigned for the preservation of the Holzburger spring, which supplied the place with drinking and service water. On August 10, 1991 the list of signatures of the referendum was submitted, more than 80% of the citizens of Holzburg had spoken out in favor of the referendum. Many Röllshouses also took part. On September 23, 1999 the referendum was accepted. On February 27, 2000 there was a referendum, in which more than 56% of the citizens voted against a connection line. Nevertheless, the connecting pipeline was built in 2005, and since December 20, 2005, Holzburg has been supplied with water from Schrecksbach.
