Schöndorf is a south-eastern part of the municipality of Waldfeucht in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Heinsberg . The place belongs to the parish Braunsrath . The Kitschbach rises at the northern end of the village.

history

In 1277 Schöndorf was first mentioned in a document as Schondorp , which means beautiful or crooked village, together with Löcken and Selsten . From 1797 to 1815 Schöndorf belonged to Mairie Braunsrath, which, like Mairien Haaren and Waldfeucht, belonged to the canton of Heinsberg in the Département de la Roer . Then the place comes to the Prussian district of Heinsberg . In 1935 the Waldfeucht office was formed with the mayor offices of Braunsrath, Haaren, Saeffelen and Waldfeucht. In addition to Schöndorf, Braunsrath may also include Braunsrath, Hontem , Löcken, Obspringen and Selsten. On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Waldfeucht was formed from the Waldfeucht office - except for Saeffelen. Schöndorf is incorporated into the Waldfeucht community together with Braunsrath.
