history
In 1202 Braunsrath was first mentioned together with Hontem as Brunsdrode , which means clearing of Brun (o). Braunsrath had its own jury until 1560 and then belonged to the Waldfeucht court. From 1797 to 1815, Mairie Braunsrath, like Haaren and Waldfeucht, belonged to the canton of Heinsberg in the Département de la Roer . Then the place came to the Prussian district of Heinsberg . In 1935 the Waldfeucht office was formed with the mayor offices of Braunsrath, Haaren, Saeffelen and Waldfeucht. Hontem, Löcken, Obspringen, Selsten and Schöndorf also belonged to this mayor's office in Braunsrath. On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Waldfeucht was formed from the Waldfeucht office - except for Saeffelen. Braunsrath is thus incorporated into Waldfeucht.

- Church buildings were first mentioned in documents in 1202. The Catholic parish church of St. Clemens is a three-aisled, neo-Gothic church built from 1848 to 1859 according to plans by the Cologne church builder Vincenz Statz on the site of these previous buildings. It was supposed to be blown up by the British in 1945 because it served as a retreat for the German soldiers. This was prevented by Mr Kellermann.
- In 1749 the Maria-Lind pilgrimage chapel with a miraculous image from the 17th century was built as a simple hall. Next to her is a Poor Clare Monastery, which was inaugurated in 1985.
- In the center of the village there is the bronze sculpture Dr Röer Sennengsbuuk met sin Vrau , a 1.10 m high farmer with wooden shoes , sickle , grindstone and a jug of “Senneng” (whey) and an 85 cm high woman with a butter churn . Some people claim that there is beer in the jug instead of whey.
