Schönfeld is a district of the local community Stadtkyll in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

Schönfeld lies in the valley of the Werft . The Arenberg Forest extends north of the village. Landesstraße 24 runs through the town. Neighboring towns are Steffeln in the south-east and Reuth in the south-west .

history

Schönfeld was first mentioned in a document in 1345 as Schonevelt . At that time the place belonged to the county of Blankenheim-Gerolstein , later to the county of Manderscheid . In 1798 Schönfeld became French like the entire left bank of the Rhine and belonged to the Département de la Sarre . In 1815 it finally became Prussian . Due to some crop failures, over 60 people emigrated between 1864 and 1890.

On January 1, 1971, the previously independent community of Schönfeld with 141 inhabitants at the time was incorporated into Stadtkyll.
