Chess Championships of the General Government

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The General Government Chess Championships were chess tournaments that were held in occupied Poland during World War II . Hans Frank , Governor General of the Government General, was the patron of these tournaments because he was an avid chess player. The tournament series began at a chess congress in Krakow on November 3, 1940. Six months later, Frank announced the establishment of a chess school with the grandmasters Efim Bogoljubow and Alexander Alekhine .
