The Schafau is a 17 km long right tributary of the Lossa in the Sömmerda district in Central East Thuringia ( Germany ).

course

The Schafau rises not far from the source of the Lossa, on the state border with Saxony-Anhalt in the Finn near Schafau . At the junction of some of the source streams, it turns in a westerly direction and reaches the Bachra dam. After leaving the reservoir, it reaches the village of Bachra , continues to flow to Ostramondra and Backleben . Now the Schafau has reached the largest place on its course, the small town of Kölleda , where it is also known as Wilder Graben , and flows through the northern and western outskirts. After leaving the city of Kölleda it bears the name Frauenbach and flows as this to the Lossa near Frohndorf .

Water quality

The upper reaches of the Schafau are classified as lightly polluted ( water quality class II), the middle and lower reaches as critically polluted (water quality class II-III).
