Schafau is a district of the town of Rastenberg in the Sömmerda district in Thuringia .

location

Schafau is located northwest of Rastenberg on federal highway 176 from Sömmerda to Freyburg an der Unstrut . The village also borders the Hohe Schrecke like Bachra . To the north, the district extends to the foot of the Finne ridge . The stream Schafau rises not far from the village and is dammed in the retention basin Bachra. A limestone quarry was opened in the corridor in 1994.

history

The first documentary evidence was archived in 1450. In 2007 a total of 72 citizens lived in this place. The history of the village shows that the foundation stone for the current church was laid in 1731. The ancestors of Carl Zeiss , who was born in Weimar in 1816 , founded the Zeiss family in Schafau in 1741. The place belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office Eckartsberga until 1815 . The decisions of the Congress of Vienna he came to Prussia and in 1816 the county Eckartsberga in the administrative district of Merseburg of the Province of Saxony assigned to which he belonged until 1944th

On July 1, 1950, Schafau was incorporated into Bachra .

In 1984 Schafau was given a bypass. On January 1, 1994, Bachra was incorporated into the city of Rastenberg.
