history

The name Schammelsdorf means Schammel's village . This name was mentioned in a document in 1308. The ending -dorf suggests that it was founded in the Carolingian era , i.e. in the period between 800 and 900 AD. The village was not mentioned in a document until 1393, when the Bamberg Bishop Lampert confirmed the determination of an estate in Schammelsdorf.

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community of Schammelsdorf was dissolved and incorporated into Litzendorf.

The new Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help was built in 2004 and consecrated on June 17, 2005.
