The executioner's house in Passau

The Scharfrichterhaus in Passau (spelling: ScharfrichterHaus ) is a renowned cabaret and music stage.

The house in Milchgasse u. Owes its historical name to Scharfrichterhaus . a. a legend according to which the executioner from Passau lived there at the time . From 1611, the Passau executioner Kaspar Neidhart made small pieces of paper there, which were supposed to make them invulnerable. This superstition found widespread use, especially among soldiers in the Thirty Years' War , which went down in history as “ Passau Art ”. Before that, the dreaded “Prislig” prison was located in the building from the 13th to the 15th century. However, the original house fell victim to the town fire of 1662, so that the current building can only be viewed symbolically as an executioner's house.

In the 1970s, the city of Passau was heavily influenced by the conservative forces of the CSU , the Diocese of Passau and the Passauer Neue Presse . That is why a movement of political cabaret formed as a counterculture in Passau , headed by cabaret artists Bruno Jonas and Siegfried Zimmigart , and which was heavily torpedoed by the conservative leadership. The editor-in-chief of the PNP imposed a news blackout on the cabaret events, the vicar general of the diocese filed charges of blasphemy and the city of Passau imposed performance bans. Despite all this, Walter Landshuter and Edgar Liegl founded the Scharfrichterhaus in March 1977 , in which Ottfried Fischer also appeared in his early days.

Since then it has developed into an important jazz and cabaret stage, on which Germany 's political cabaret takes a hand. In 1979 the Passauer Kabaretttage, a festival for cabaret, theater, music and cabaret, celebrated its start and since 1983 the Scharfrichterhaus , in cooperation with the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation and the Munich evening newspaper , has awarded the ScharfrichterBeil . This young talent award has already served many cabaret artists, such as B. 1983 the young Hape Kerkeling , as a springboard for her career.

The differences between the city and the house have now been resolved. The Scharfrichterhaus is currently firmly integrated into Passau's cultural life and is generally recognized as an important supra-regional institution in today's cabaret scene. In June 2013, the flood hit the Executioner's house in Passau, and the walls had to dry out for a few months. Game operations were therefore relocated to the "Redoute" and "X-Point-Halle" outdoor venues for several months.

The executioner's ax was awarded for the 33rd time on December 2, 2015.

Execution Theater

Since 1987, the building has also been home to the executioner's cinema, which primarily provides a platform for alternative film art. It is run by a local cinema operator who, among other things, owns two other cinemas in the city. The cinema has 74 seats and a screen that has been cut off at the top corners due to the structure of the room.
