The Schattenberg is a 1845 m high mountain in the Allgäu Alps . It is located southeast of Oberstdorf and is the westernmost summit in the ridge that stretches westward from the Pointer and separates thealtenbach and Oytal valleys. At an altitude of 1692 m there is a cross, from whose location there is an interesting view of Oberstdorf. At the foot of the mountain is the Schattenbergschanze named after him in Oberstdorf, the venue for the annual opening competition of the Four Hills Tournament .
Ascent
An unmarked but clear path leads from Kühberg near Oberstdorf to the Schattenberg. The further way east to the pointer over the ridge leads to the actual Schattenberg summit on a clearly recognizable path through pine scrub , then to the Seeköpfle, still clearly visible over grass slopes and crags. The path then disappears in places between Seeköpfle and Hüttenköpf (status in August 2015).
