The Scheiben Bergfalke II / 55 glider is a composite construction, cantilevered mid-decker from the 1950s that was designed for training and performance flying.

history

The Bergfalke II was a model of "slice Bergfalke" series in 1953 on the basis of mu 13 E developed. The responsible designer was Egon Scheibe . The most important changes to the "Bergfalken I" are the negative swept wings, the connection of which to the fuselage was moved 260 mm backwards in order to improve the view from the "teacher's seat". The new price for the aircraft was DM 8,900 in 1955.

construction

The fuselage consists of a tubular steel frame welded in half-timbered construction , which was manufactured and covered with four belts in the front area and three belts in the rear area. The seats are at the same height one behind the other and are provided with a one-piece hood that can be folded away to the side. The fuselage is provided with a bow and center of gravity coupling. A fixed central wheel, which is mounted on a runner with a central spring strut, serves as the chassis.

The wing structure is classically designed with a single spar and divided for easy installation. At the root the surfaces are 1510 mm deep and at the end they are still 650 mm. The wingspan is approx. 16.6 meters, the area with ailerons 17.7 m². The wing is swept negative at -5.5 ° and has a 3.5 ° V-position upwards.

The tail unit is designed as a self-supporting wooden structure. The fins are covered with plywood and the oars with fabric. The rudder unit is fixed to the fuselage and has an effective area of 0.9 m². The removable horizontal stabilizer covers a total of 2 m², with the rudder itself measuring exactly one square meter.
